Fractures of the shoulder blade

Shoulder blade fractures are rare. Since a strong covering of soft tissue and good mobility over the ribcage provide relatively good protection, shoulder blade fractures arise only as a result of considerable force. Consequently, shoulder blade fractures are often accompanied by other injuries.

Shoulder blade fractures only require surgical management if they project into the shoulder and cause incongruity in the joint.
